About Agnieszka Gerwel

Agnieszka Gerwel My art emphasizes the healing aspect of viewing nature and brightly colored paintings and photographs. I enjoy painting folk art and taking pictures of flowers and landscapes. Looking at soothing images of nature evokes serenity, relieves stress and stimulates positive feelings... I hope that the viewer of my art will be able to take a break in the middle of their busy workday, meditate and feel present in the moment. Many of my photographs depict the beauty of New Jersey, the Garden State, where I currently live. Part of my art reflects a lifelong interest in world cultures and, somehow, nostalgia always finds its way into my work. The series, 'Women of Africa', is inspired by childhood memories from my family's stay in Libya, Northern Africa. I was mesmerized by the ruggedness of the desert, the architecture of Darnah, a town on the Mediterranean coast, with its exotic palm trees, rocky beaches as though sculpted by an invisible artist, and hot Ghibli winds coming from the Sahara desert along with a warm, dry climate. Most of all, I was fascinated by the Arabs, the Bedouins, and immigrants from Chad and Sudan. Women from sub-Saharan Africa exuded charm, sensuality, and elegance. They were adorned by brightly colored fabrics beautifully wrapped around their silhouettes. Colors ranged from shades of green, reds, blues, and a myriad of yellows. Women carrying children in their arms, gracefully balancing decorative water jugs on their heads captivated my imagination. I have felt very positive energy emanating from this visual memory throughout my life, and I would like to share a glimpse of this sensation here, hoping it will take the observer on an exotic journey to the mysterious continent of Africa. 'You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.' Maya Angelou 'What keeps life fascinating is the constant creativity of the soul.' Deepak Chopra 'Chance favors the prepared mind.' Louis Pasteur 'To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.' Joseph Chilton Pearce 'Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.' Albert Einstein 'The moment you become aware of a plant’s emanation of stillness and peace, that plant becomes your teacher.' 'You reconnect with nature in the most intimate and powerful way by becoming aware of your breathing, and learning to hold your attention there, this is a healing and deeply empowering thing to do. It brings about a shift in consciousness, from the conceptual world of thought to the inner realm of unconditioned consciousness.' Eckhart Tolle ...Art is all around us, evoking a sense of wonder and inspiration...
