Artist's Description

The name 'Mesi' means 'water woman' in Yao language, which belongs to Bantu language, spoken in Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique, also by some people in Zambia. It also means 'smoke' in Sotho language, also a Bantu language, spoken in Sothern Africa.

My art emphasizes the healing aspect of viewing nature and brightly colored paintings and photographs. I enjoy painting folk art and taking pictures of flowers and landscapes. Looking at soothing images of nature evokes serenity, relieves stress and stimulates positive feelings... I hope that the viewer of my art will be able to take a break in the middle of their busy workday, meditate and feel present in the moment. Many of my photographs depict the beauty of New Jersey, the Garden State, where I currently live. Part of my art reflects a lifelong interest in world cultures and, somehow, nostalgia always finds its way into my work. The series, 'Women of Africa', is inspired by childhood memories from my family's stay in Libya,...
